In 1350 Black Death had destroyed a third of the population of Europe. Completely helpless to combat the disease, affected humans died within days of infection.
Lepers and outsiders were accused of deliberately poisoning the water and hysterical charges of sorcery and witchcraft were brought against unpopular people.
Mass graveyards were created to host the dead. Towns and villages lost most of their populations, and some disappeared altogether. As plague destroyed people and not possessions, the drop in population was accompanied by a corresponding rise in per capita wealth.
For those of the day, what didn’t kill them made them stronger.
Elements of this dark time in history are portrayed through the 2008 Black Death Inc. graphics. Silver metallic skulls symbolize the rise in wealth during a time of overwhelming death. The charcoal dove appears as hope is forever lost, and the UV bolts of thunder act as the perceived cause of the day…
earthquakes, fire falling from the sky, and plagues of vermin.
